Chanel No. 8 Rouge Allure Lip Colour Review & Swatches

No. 8

Chanel No. 8 Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour ($38.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a slightly bright, medium red with subtle, warm undertones and a fine dusting of golden micro-shimmer. It was, in fact, a “hint of sparkle,” as the brand had described. The consistency was smooth, velvety without being too emollient nor too powdery, which helped the color glide across my lips evenly but didn’t feather on me over time. The formula seemed to help smooth out most of my lip lines, too. It had opaque pigmentation that stayed on well for five and a half hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Viseart Apricotine Petit Pro Palette Review & Swatches

Apricotine

Viseart Apricotine Petit Pro Palette ($30.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a warmer, more orange/peach driven set of neutrals with four mattes and four shimmers. The mattes were lovely to work with and gave me no trouble at all, but two of the shimmers–Grenadine (dusty, prone to sheering out) and Mimolette (less foolproof to apply)–could have been more pigmented and easier to apply over bare skin.

Meringue

Meringue is a light-medium peach with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, velvety consistency that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out with ease. It stayed on nicely for eight hours on me before it started to fade.

Formula Overview

The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be “pigment[ed]” with “smooth and even application” that is “long-lasting.” The matte shades are typically semi-opaque to opaque but buildable with soft, velvety textures that can sometimes be a little powdery or slightly firm, depending on the shade. I find that the mattes are often best suited to someone who likes control over pigmentation and may prefer to build up color; they regularly perform better in practice than just swatched on the arm as well.

The shimmer shades range from satin to metallic, and the more metallic shades tend to feel creamier to the touch, while the satin ones have a fine pearl to them that looks almost melted on the lid once blended out. Both the mattes and shimmers are blendable and easy to work with. Most of Viseart’s eyeshadows wear between seven and nine hours on me.

Praline

Praline is a soft, light-medium brown with warmer undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was opaque in a single layer, while the consistency felt smooth and finely-milled. The eyeshadow applied evenly and blended out with little effort. This shade lasted well on my lid for eight hours before I noticed some fading.

Apricotine

Apricotine is a pop of medium orange with warmer undertones and a satin sheen. It had a stronger yellower undertone but still retained its overall orange hue. The consistency was soft, a little dusty in the pan, but it applied evenly with full coverage to my skin and blended out easily without losing its intensity. It wore well for eight hours on me before I noticed any fading.

Dolce

Dolce is a deeper brown with warm, reddish undertones and a matte finish. It seemed to have more of a “natural matte” finish when applied and buffed into my skin as it retained some of the natural oils rather than looking drier or dusty on. It had opaque color coverage that adhered well to my skin and blended out without difficulty. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before it started to show signs of fading.

Sugared

Sugared is a bright, light gold with warm, peachy undertones and a metallic sheen. It was intensely metallic–much, much more shimmery and reflective compared to the other shimmers in the palette. It had opaque color coverage that applied smoothly and evenly to my lid, while the edges blended out beautifully. The color lasted well for eight hours on me before it started to fade a bit.

Grenadine

Grenadine is a brighter, light-medium coral with warmer undertones and a golden sheen. It had good color coverage, but it had a tendency to sheer out on my skin without a tackier base or a dampened brush to amplify it. The texture felt drier, on the dustier side, and there was slight fallout as I blended it out. I highly recommend using this shade with a dampened brush, which fixed all the issues I had with it. On me, it wore well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Mimolette

Mimolette is a medium-dark copper with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in a single layer, while the texture felt more loosely-pressed and had some dustiness in the pan that resulted in slight fallout during application. I found it easiest to work with by pressing and patting onto my skin and pulling in one directly, then blending out the edges, which helped to apply the product more evenly and with less fallout–or you could use a dampened brush. It lasted well for eight hours on me before I noticed slight fading.

Bobbi Brown Regal, Watermelon, Crush Crushed Lip Colors Reviews & Swatches

Regal

Bobbi Brown Regal Crushed Lip Color ($29.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark red with strong, warm undertones and a natural sheen. The pigmentation built up from medium to mostly opaque (two layers), while the color went on evenly and didn’t emphasize my lip lines. It had a lightweight, thinner consistency that felt waxy as it slid across my lips but never had that wet, creamy feeling that most non-matte lipsticks have these days. I felt like this helped it adhere for longer-wear but didn’t lead to as much hydration as the formula was supposed to bring to the party. It wore well for five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Formula Overview

$29.00/0.11 oz. – $263.64 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have “high color payoff” with a “blotted-down stain effect” that “glides on comfortably” and keeps lips “hydrated.” It’s also supposed to be long-wearing and is buildable from “blotted-down” in one layer to “intense color payoff” in two to three layers. The majority of the shades in the range have medium to semi-opaque coverage in one layer, and they were buildable from there with two to three layers. A few shades applied less evenly than others, though most went on well enough.

The consistency was more like a firmer, harder balm, as it glided easily across my lips, but it didn’t feel wet, emollient, or oily, more waxy like a traditional lipstick but very lightweight. Some shades pulled into my lip lines and a few emphasized my natural lip texture, while others were more smoothing and flattering in finish/texture. The wear typically lasted between three and six hours with some of the richer/darker shades leaving subtle stains behind. The formula was more non-drying to lightly hydrating, but it wasn’t hydrating enough that I’d put it in that category (hydrating lipstick). They had a faint, lemon-meets-wax scent that sometimes wasn’t noticeable at all (depended on the shade).

All swatches are with two layers.

Watermelon

Bobbi Brown Watermelon Crushed Lip Color ($29.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark pink-coral with subtle, warm undertones and a natural sheen. The lipstick had buildable color payoff from medium in one layer to opaque in two layers. The texture felt waxy without noticeable slip/wetness, so it didn’t tug during application but had a thinner, very lightweight feel on my lips. The color applied fairly evenly, but there was very slight streaking along the edges. It stayed on nicely for five hours and felt non-drying while worn.

Crush

Bobbi Brown Crush Crushed Lip Color ($29.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a bright, medium fuchsia pink with cool undertones and a natural sheen. It had buildable color coverage that ranged from semi-sheer to semi-opaque. The color applied somewhat evenly, but it caught on my lip texture and sank into my deeper lip lines; I felt like it didn’t visually look as patchy to my eye just because of the brightness level of the hue itself. The consistency was lightweight, thin without being clingy, and waxy as it glided across my lips without tugging but did not feel emollient. It stayed on well for five hours, left a faint stain behind, and felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.
