Bobbi Brown Grenadine Crushed Lip Color ($24.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a reddish-berry with subtle, cool undertones and a natural sheen. It had buildable pigmentation from medium to mostly opaque (two layers), though it became more even in overall application with a second layer. The texture was smooth, waxy without being too clingy, and comfortable to apply and to wear. The formula was forgiving of lip texture and lines as it didn’t settle into mine. It wore well for five hours, left a faint stain behind, and was neither drying nor hydrating.

The formula is supposed to have “high color payoff” with a “blotted-down stain effect” that “glides on comfortably” and keeps lips “hydrated.” It’s also supposed to be long-wearing and is buildable from “blotted-down” in one layer to “intense color payoff” in two to three layers. The majority of the shades in the range have medium to semi-opaque coverage in one layer, and they were buildable from there with two to three layers. A few shades applied less evenly than others, though most went on well enough.
The consistency was more like a firmer, harder balm, as it glided easily across my lips, but it didn’t feel wet, emollient, or oily, more waxy like a traditional lipstick but very lightweight. Some shades pulled into my lip lines and a few emphasized my natural lip texture, while others were more smoothing and flattering in finish/texture. The wear typically lasted between three and six hours with some of the richer/darker shades leaving subtle stains behind. The formula was more non-drying to lightly hydrating, but it wasn’t hydrating enough that I’d put it in that category (hydrating lipstick). They had a faint, lemon-meets-wax scent that sometimes wasn’t noticeable at all (depended on the shade).

Bobbi Brown Cherry Crushed Lip Color ($24.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a medium-dark red with neutral-to-cool undertones and a satin sheen. This shade was a real chameleon as it appeared warmer in the tube, cooler swatched, and more neutral-to-warm applied to my lips. It had buildable color payoff that ranged from medium (one layer) to semi-opaque (two layers). The lipstick had a smooth, waxy texture that didn’t tug on my lips during application but never felt emollient or really cream-like either. It adhered evenly and didn’t emphasize my lip lines, while the wear clocked in at five hours with a non-drying formula behind it.

The color payoff was buildable from semi-sheer to semi-opaque, but it applied unevenly and had a tendency to sit in my lip lines. The texture felt similar to the other shades–waxy and glided across my lips without tugging–but the application had room for improvement. There aren’t enough satin-to-pearl finish blushes, especially in a real light-to-dark spectrum of shades and undertones. I love when blush adds a subtle glow to my skin but can still be layered with highlighter (of all intensities).

Tom Ford Beauty Liev Lips & Boys Lip Color ($36.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a deep, reddened plum with subtle, cool undertones and fine, ruby red pearl. It had buildable pigmentation from medium to semi-opaque with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that glided easily across my lips but didn’t feel overly slippery while worn. This particular shade was less pigmented than marketed, but it built up surprisingly well, as it did not appear streaky or patchy as these types of hues often appear with more emollient formulas behind them. It wore well for five hours, was lightly hydrating, and left a faint, pink-red stain behind.
This shade is currently listed as exclusive to Neiman Marcus.

The Lips & Boys Lip Color formula is not different from the full-sized Lip Color range; they offer a travel-sized version (which is actually cheaper by the ounce: $36.00/0.07 oz. or $514.29/oz. compared to the full-size at $54.00/0.10 oz. or $540.00/oz. The formula is supposed to have an “ultra-creamy texture” and “pure color” with a “balance of luminosity.” The range has a fair amount of variation as the finishes differ (matte to metallic), so coverage can be medium to full with some shades applying well and others decently. The wear was anywhere from three hours to over six hours. In general, the formula has a creamy texture that’s easy to work with, comfortable to wear, and is lightly to moderately hydrating. They have a vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Chanel Cristal de Printemps (316) Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow ($61.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a pink-themed quad featuring a deep plum, two lighter pinks, and a pale peach. Normally, I find the micro-shimmer in Chanel’s eyeshadows to look almost “melted” on my skin after application, but these were dusty and looked a little dry on my skin. They didn’t adhered as easily, even over a primer, and had a tendency to sheer out and have some fallout during application.

Cristal de Printemps #2 is a light-medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted finish. The texture felt smooth to the touch but was more powdery and drier, as the eyeshadow sheered out and did not apply evenly to my skin when I worked with it. I had to really pat and press it on, and then leave it alone to avoid it becoming a dusting of shimmer. There was fallout during application, and the only way I could make it look true-to-pan was to use it with a dampened brush (but it’s touted as “pigment-rich” as is). Used dry, it lost a lot of its color just sitting on my lid–it looked like a washed out version of itself within a few minutes. It stayed on well for seven hours before fading on me.

Cristal de Printemps #3 is a light pink with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had a moderately powdery consistency that seemed drier when I worked with it, as it looked dusty and adhered unevenly to my skin. I had to press and pat it into place or else use it with a dampened brush to avoid fallout and help it sit better on my lid. It wore well for seven hours on me before I noticed fading.

Cristal de Printemps #4 is a pale peach with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-sheer pigmentation with a dusty, drier texture that sheered out even more applied to my skin. Even over primer, it was semi-sheer at best, but it had a tendency to blend out too readily and drop fallout during application. It showed signs of fading after six hours of wear.
